Highfield Oval is a 47 acre site off Ambrose Lane belonging to the charity, Youth With A Mission. It is open to the public (8am-8pm, Mon-Sat and 8am-1pm on Sundays) for walking in the woodland (spectacular in spring with bluebells),using the playing fields, cycling & scooting round the green and visiting the popular Oval Cafe. Kinsbourne Green at the north end of Harpenden provides a great open space for kite-flying and sledging, picnics, horse-riding and dog/children-walking.

Lydekker Park is tucked away behind the High Street. It will give you a moment's peace in its 3 acres of nature conservation with a mature pond area. It is here that you can attend the Teddy Bears Picnic, Music in Lydekker, Wild fest and many other events each year. Find the entrances opposite the BP garage or through the car park off Sun Lane.

Refurbished in 2018. It contains 35 play items with over 100 play activities including the refurbishment of the much-loved pirate ship. Nearest toilets in the Gibraltar Castle pub opposite on Lower Luton Road. This park is next to the Batford Springs Local Nature Reserve. In the winter the hill that the park sits on is perfect for sledging!

Today Nomansland Common is a very popular open space for dog walking, horse riding, model aircraft flying and families who enjoy a picnic on a Sunday afternoon.

Wonderful playground situated in Southdown, Harpenden with fantastic wooden play equipment - slides, swings, large boat climbing structure, basket swing, toddler rockers, wooden house. No toilet facilities. Picnic benches.. Accessed via Oakley Road, visible from Grove Road.

Refurbished in 2019 There is a fenced-in play area for young children which includes swings, climbing and slide combination, rocker, tea cup twister, and wooden log trim trail. Outside the fenced in area is a football pitch, basketball net, cricket stumps and wooden trim trail. There is a lot of green space to run about, and benches to sit on.
