Pick of the Month - September 2019

Published:

As the older children head back to school this month, and their after-school and weekend time is no doubt taken up with various clubs (if not, check out our Activities & Clubs section!) we thought we would dedicate September’s picks to events and activities suitable for under 5s (though some take place at weekends and are suitable for older children too).

Wardown House And Museum in Luton runs a Monthly Tots Tales session with a story and sensory play session before the museum opens to the public.  This month it’s on Tuesday 3rd September.

How about getting your hands dirty and digging up something for dinner at the Willows Farm Potato Shindig, running from 2nd to 29th September?

If you fancy a trip to the theatre there’s plenty to choose from this month. Tabby McTat is at The Radlett Centre 4th &5th September or at Hertford Theatre on 28th & 29th September. Christopher’s Caterpillars is at The Old Town Hall, Hemel Hempstead on 21st September. You can see Hey Diddle Diddle on 15th September or The Scarecrow’s Wedding on 28th & 29th September at Luton Library Theatre. Or Hertford Theatre have Three Little Pig Tails on 28th September and Theatre of Widdershins: Rumplestiltskin & The Snail of Destiny on 29th September.

If you are thinking about attending some classes for Under 5s, Monkey Music are holding two taster sessions if you want to give it a go on 6th September - one for babies and a mixed age session.  And Gymboree will be at Christopher Place Shopping Centre in St Albans for some taster sessions on 11th September. You can find lots more classes for under 5s (and over 5s too!) in our Activities and Clubs section including Moo Music who launch classes in Harpenden at The Oval Cafe this month starting 3rd September.

After all that excitement we’ll all need a good sleep! Nap at the Museum is a special event taking place at St Albans Museum on 27th September aimed at promoting good sleep habits and also raising money for charity with story sessions, kids yoga and sleep advice.

For model train fans of all ages, Brambleton Model Railway Club is holding an Open Day at the club site on Saturday 7th September.

If you fancy dancing the afternoon away with your little ones (again not just under 5s) Raver Tots is coming to Harpenden Public Halls on Sunday 8th September.

As part of Heritage Open Days 2019 St Albans Cathedral has a Children’s Graffiti Trail from 13th to 22nd September where you can explore the Cathedral and look for the graffiti and symbols on the wall. There’s host of other venues opening up with special activities for Heritage Open Days this month so have a look at our What’s On page to see them.

And finally, if you find yourself looking for something last-minute to fill your morning or afternoon with your little one, don’t forget about our Under 5s Drop-ins by Day page where you’ll find something going on everyday that you don't need to pre-book and won't cost the earth.
