Pick of the Month - March 2019

Published:

The daffodils are popping out and the lambing events are in the calendar, so it must be March!

If you want to see some new-born lambs, and maybe even witness some live births head to Oaklands College on 16th or 17th March for their Lambing Weekend.  This is a free event, but you MUST register in advance for tickets.

Watergate Farm, near Leighton Buzzard, are also holding Lambing Days every weekend from 23rd March until 22nd April.

March also means Pancake Day!  Head into St Albans on Tuesday 5th March to watch the spectacle of the annual charity St Albans Pancake Race outside St Albans Museum at noon.  After the main race there will be family activities in the afternoon.

And we mustn’t forget that it’s Mother’s Day in March!  Harpenden Library are holding a special Mother’s Day Toddler Tales on Saturday 30th March with the story “Guess How Much I Love You”.  This is free (though donations are welcome) and most suitable for under 5s.  On Mother’s Day itself (31st March), if you fancy a family day out, Mums can go free (with a paying child) to Paradise Wildlife Park and Standalone Farm.

Also celebrated this month is World Book Day (7th March). Talking Tales, a show about book characters coming to life at night, will be on at The Grove Theatre in Dunstable on the day itself.  On Sunday 10th March The Giant Jam Sandwich (based on the book by John Vernon Lord and Janet Burroway), will be at Luton Library Theatre.  Other favourite books appearing on stage this month are Dear Zoo at Gordon Craig Theatre (also coming to The Alban Arena next month) and Room on the Broom at Hertford Theatre.

And for adults and older children or teenagers Harpenden Musical Theatre Company’s production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic South Pacific (which was actually based on a collection of short stories called Tales of the South Pacific, by James A Michener - so keeping with the book theme!) will be sailing into Harpenden Public Halls 26th – 30th March.
