Pick of the Month - February 2019

Published:

After all the end-of-year excitement with Halloween, Bonfire Night and then Christmas, January is always a quiet month for events.  But with half-term coming up February picks up again, which is just as well because the weather is not always great that week so it's good to have some plans up your sleeve!

Luton Culture and Full House Theatre group have their annual Feb Fest arts festival for young people running 18-21 February.  It includes workshops and shows featuring dance, singing, performing, puppets, art and more.

Two special half-term events here in Harpenden are a charity screening of The Incredibles 2 (PG) in Harpenden Public Halls and a Family Conservation Day on Harpenden Common both on Saturday 16 February.

Further afield the popular Spring Circus is back at Van Hage Garden Centre in Great Amwell.  There's live lambing at the February Frolics event at Willows Activity Farm or may also see some at Mead Open Farm. Enjoy Mayhem in the Mad Lab at the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey, which includes hands-on science experiments, making slime and modelling dough - I always like it when the mess is left for someone else to clear up!  There is of course the usual mix of children's shows, arts & crafts, outdoor trails and other hand-on half-term activities taking place at theatres, museums, parks and other venues in the area, so take a look at our What's On page for a full list.

Outside of half-term there's still plenty of fun to be had.  It's Harry Potter Book Night at Harpenden Library on 8 February.  Book a place for your little fan to join in some wizarding fun!

For little ones several of their favourite characters will be taking to the stage in our local theatres including: BING! at Watford Colosseum, Sooty and friends at The Radlett Centre and Elmer the Patchwork Elephant at Hertford Theatre.

For older children how about Hertford Symphony Orchestra's concert for children at Hertford Theatre, entitled Machines!  Children are invited to come in machine-related fancy dress and bring their instruments for lots of audience participation!

With half-term fast approaching don't forget to check out our Holiday Clubs and Classes section for more great activities for the kids!
