Pick of the Month - November 2018

Published:

The start of November falls partway through our half-term here in Hertfordshire, so there’s plenty of activities and events going on in the first few days, many continuing with the spooky Halloween theme.  But for something a bit more gentle and not at all scary have a look at the library’s Pyjama Storytime and Soft Toy Sleepover on Friday 2nd November.

No sooner are we over the ghosts and ghouls than we are straight into the the whizz, pops and bangs of firework night.  Choose from Redbourn Common, St Albans or OA Sport on Saturday 3rd November; Harpenden Rugby Club or Wheathampstead on Sunday 4th; or if you are away for half-term and worried about missing out don't be, as Crabtree Schools’ Spectacular is being held the following weekend on Saturday 10th November.

Many of you I’m sure enjoyed the HMTC production of Oliver a few weeks ago.  Well this month it’s the turn of St Albans Musical Theatre Company who are putting on a production of another family classic - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in The Alban Arena, 6th - 10th November.

The second half of November sees the start of all the Christmas-themed events.  The popular ice-skating at Van Hage Garden Centre begins on 15th November and runs until 7th January.

Harpenden Christmas Carnival, with the  extended Farmer’s Market, switching on of the fabulous town lights, Santa’s Grotto and lots of entertainment takes place on Sunday 25th November.  This is a great fun event for all the family to enjoy and start getting into the Christmas spirit.  Southdown Lights-up will be on Friday 30th November. And although they take place in December we must also mention Batford Christmas Lights-on and Redbourn Christmas Market both happening on Sunday 2nd December.  And watch this space for news about Christmas Wonderland at Batford!

Finally, if you are looking to take the children to visit Santa this year then you will find details of all the Santa's Grottoes, Father Christmas Experiences and other places to get a sighting of the man on himself, listed on our dedicated "Where to see Santa" page.

We’ll be back next month with our Panto and Christmas round-up!
